Tasting notes:

A highly spiced and relatively refined nose of mostly black and blue berry fruit aromas merge into sweet, powerful and focused flavors that are beautifully defined, linear and penetrating on the vibrant and gorgeously long finish. The intensity and definition plus the structure should permit this to age effortlessly.

Winery information:

Maison Champy runs a large part of its 21 ha of vines on the Côte de Beaune – especially in Pernand-Vergelesses – organically in order to preserve and highlight the true character of this exceptional terroir. With three centuries of history and experience behind it, Maison Champy, as the first Maison in Bourgogne, has established a precious know-how in the selection of rare and sought-after Burgundy crus. This is especially the case for Côte de Nuits, where long-term partnerships have enabled Maison Champy to follow the work in the vineyards throughout the year, all the way up to the harvest, before taking over both the winemaking and ageing process. It is a work of "haute couture", with long ageing periods (up to 16 months) and an average of only two barrels per wine.

The vineyard of Vosne-Romanée covers about 240 ha on Vosne Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux. The village of Vosne-Romanée, situated at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, is comprised of six fabulous Grands Crus such as RomanéeConti, Tâche, Richebourg… whereas its neighbor, Flagey-Echezeaux, shelters Echezeaux and Grands-Echezeaux. The production of Grands Crus represents ¼ of the vineyard. Les Echezeaux itself covers only 34.8 hectares, at an altitude varying between 230 and 300 meters above sea level, with a rather complex mixture of soils: limestone, red silt, marl…
